Denim Blù

ABOUT

Denim Blù is a Toronto-based recording artist, songwriter, and music producer whose identity and music reflect the cultural mosaic that makes Toronto’s music so universally-appealing. He’s a Chinese-born queer artist whose inspiration is borne out of rebellion. “I’m not supposed to be Chinese and making pop music; I’m not supposed to be gay; I’m not supposed to emote sex. Well, I do,” says Denim Blù, “My songwriting is inspired by the greatest songwriters like Elton John and Alicia Keys, while my sound is influenced by pop artists like Robyn and The Weeknd”. Denim Blù’s music training and influences span three continents having studied and composed in China, the UK, and Toronto. The product of his music is pure pop fantasy with emotional intrigue, drawing inspirations from pop, rock, electronica, R&B, and jazz, all while being unapologetically queer. His music delivers new-age pop with a story to tell.

“We know it hurts to get burned, but Denim Blù is giving it to us so smooth that we kinda like the pain.”

“‘Blue‘ is an album filled with different perspectives and themes but captures an individual processing love, heartbreak and recovery. It is a beautiful album featuring unique and diverse collaborations, making this a meaningful and progressive body of work.”

“Denim Blù pours his heart out in this song and you can hear the raw emotions of anger and sadness in his voice as he tells the story of his love life with beautiful yet elegant harmonies, the song is soft and slow making us want to sway from side to side.”

– Jade Morris, Industry Me Magazine (UK)

His debut album, Blue (2021), captures youthful love, volatile love, and queer love, while taking the listener on a journey from the exuberant magic of falling in love (“Extraordinary Feel”), to deep, dark places of lament (“Blue”, “I’ll Die”, “I Miss You”), to coming to terms with love lost (“Young and Foolish”, “Burn”, “Again”).

Blue is a journey of discovery for myself, both as an individual and as an artist,” says Denim Blù.

Blue’s synthesis is a celebration of Toronto’s cultural diversity as the album, its collaborative artists, songwriting, and production are queer and ethnically-diverse, adding to the international and progressive flair that makes Toronto one of the hottest scenes in the music industry today.
